Official Press Release:
2013 National Tournament: NorCal Teams Selection Announcement
Woodside, CA – The two teams to represent the Northern California Chapter at the 2013 US Lacrosse National Tournament were selected following tryouts Sunday April 21nd at Woodside High School, in Woodside CA. The 2013 National Tournament (NT) will be played at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, over Memorial Day weekend: May 25-26, 2013.

On April 21, girls’ high school varsity players from all throughout the bay area came together to compete for spots on the two Sub-Regional Pacific NorCal Teams. Within the national organization of US Lacrosse, there are sixteen regions in the country; 64 chapters serve 43 states. California is a part of the Pacific Region. There are five chapters in the Pacific region: Northern CA, San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County and Hawaii. To be granted a sub-regional team for NT, for every 25 schools with varsity lacrosse, the chapter may apply for one team. San Diego sends one, LA/OC will split this year to each send one, and NorCal sends two. In Northern CA, there are currently more than 70 high school varsity programs that help propel the chapter’s second team to this national event. High school varsity level players who play on HS club teams (because their HS does not offer lacrosse) are also eligible for consideration at the tryouts.

National Tournament (formerly known as WDNT: Women's Division National Tournament) began in 1933 as a tournament to showcase the best post-collegiate and club women's lacrosse players. 2013 marks the 81th anniversary of the event. Since its inception, it has grown into one of the largest women's lacrosse events in the nation. It is a true celebration of women's lacrosse and continues to represent the heartbeat of the game. 2013 Tournament highlights include division championships, a U.S. Team exhibition, and a premier recruiting opportunity for high school players. This year, more than 60 teams will be placed into six (6) divisions, which are further broken into pools: Onondaga, Seneca, Oneida, Tuscarora, Mohawk, Cayuga and Iroquois.

The 2013 schedule will be available soon, on the US Lacrosse NT event page site:

The below named rosters for NorCal NT Teams 1 & 2 include players from 19 different HS programs in Northern CA. There are forty total players: 14 juniors, 10 sophomores and 16 freshmen named to two teams. The teams also include eight players who have been named to represent NorCal last year, or in 2011 at the NT events held in New York at Stony Brook University.

The forty comprise two very strong rosters of players who will undoubtedly distinguish themselves at NT in their respective divisions, once again. With Jen Lee (Menlo School) and Jamie Nesbitt (Palo Alto) coaching NorCal1, and Mona Mesbahi (Pioneer) and Jessica Paige (St. Francis-Mountain View) coaching NorCal2, the teams will rise to the occasion of each and every challenge they may face during the competition. We wish them all the best as our chapter’s Teams: “NorCal1” and“NorCal2”at NT in Pennsylvania at Lehigh University this May.

Heartfelt thanks and praise goes to our incredible tryouts staff of facilitators and selectors: a dedicated team of coaches and administrators who helped to evaluate each of the players and ensure that the day went very smoothly in every way.

This is only the third year our Pacific Sub-Region of Northern CA has been granted a second team by US Lacrosse, and we are happy to have the continued opportunity to bring all of our NorCal players to this annual event. Thanks to ALL head coaches of girls’ varsity programs in Northern California who help to make this a reality, by way of their coaches membership with US Lacrosse.

Congratulations to all!
