best coaches in nor cal...?

I think that laxcat21 will be one great future coach in Nor Cal. After Just graduating from Arizona, now residing here in Concord. I'm sure that his phone is blowin up and his numerous amounts of emails requesting his knowledge and leadership, he'll hopefully soon make a decision on where to coach.

As far as importance to the growth of the sport of lacrosse in California, you need to look no farther than Dave Giarrusso. He was one of the driving forces in the movement behind getting high school lax out of the club sport arena and getting it sanctioned by the CIF.

As an aside, he came very close to coming back to the bay area this year, but not necessarily as the lacrosse coach. The extended SI community would love to see him come back and is hoping that someday it will work out.

I think the success of many teams boils down to many of the assistant coaches out there. It is very evident when you see a game where one team has a sideline with 4-5 coaches, and the other team only has one guy. For myself personally, it is great when I can break up practices into different stations run by that "specialty" coach and during timouts players can go straight to their position coach. Hopefully since we have seen the rapid growth lately, some of the graduating college player will come our continuing the developement.

On the flip side, I truly admire the coaches thjat don't have the luxury of numerous assistants yet still find ways to be succcessfull year in and year out.

I would have to agree that assistant coaches make a great difference in a team especially when you can break up into offensive and defensive groups like HughDog said. I just wish my team would have a goalie coach cause then I wouldn't have to go through all those shooting drills when my coach is trying to teach how to shoot harder, and a cause effect of this would mean less accuracy at first, which turns into more bruises for me, Lucky Me. To sum it up, are there any schools out there with a goalie coach, because that is awesome!!

As far as teacher of the game go, Bob Omera always puts a quality team on the fiels without a true feeder program. He teaches athletes how to play lacrosse and he does a good job at it. He has tought 2 kids that have gone D1. bradford Goshorn ( hoftsra) and Danny Vinson(Gerogtown) 4 years with bob and you can really learn the game...... He has an awsom assistant coach Mark Perlite, Mark is an alroung good coach as well

Clearly, NDNU doesn't stress grammar as much as they should... But I agree with the above statement. The Rocket is easily one of the smartest coaches in the area.

Dan Vinson never played on the Georgetown team. He was a face-off specialist for the fall of his freshmen year then stopped playing. He has never been on the G'Town roster.

I believe that's correct, MJ_88. It's worth noting that Andy Corno was Georgetown's FOGO last year. Andy Corno was almost certainly the top face-off man in Div I every year he played, as witness his selection in the 1st round of the MLL draft this year by the New Jersey Pride. Here's a quote from the MLL about the draft:

"With the final selection in the opening round, the Pride selected Georgetown face-off specialist Andy Corno, who ended his Hoya career as the school's all-time leader in face-off wins and face-off percentage. He won 624 of 995 career draws in 57 games for the Hoyas to go with 341 career ground balls."

Good as Dan Vinson is, and can be, it's tough to beat out someone who is considerd by many to have been one of the top 5 face-off guys in D-I history. Corno ended his Junior year with more than a 70% face-off win rate. Almost anyone would have agreed with Coach Urick in asking Dan to redshirt as Corno entered his Senior season.

A good friend of mine played on the Georgetown team last year, and very specifically told me that he does not play. Also I went to the Georgetown-Duke game last year and he wasn't on the roster.
